Throughout 2023, I have worked with young people all across Doncaster. From, local primary and secondary schools, youth clubs via Doncaster council, I’ve joined popular sport organisations such as Active Fusion, Gaged Steel, The Bike Shack, Active Futures, Doncaster Skate Cooperative Skatepark, Expect Youth, Graft and Creations Doncaster CIC for summer camps during the holidays, have ran my own 6-week skateboarding programs for beginners and hold weekly skateboarding group and 121 lessons at the local indoor skatepark “Doncaster Skate Cooperative”.

What I’ve seen from the sessions is young people who had never before tried skateboarding and who present fear towards the sport and lack confidence become competent in their physical ability, those who were once shy and quiet, become social, confident and thriving from developing the skill in a safe and positive environment through spending time exercising with other young people and creative positive social groups where support, help and motivation has been present.
I have recently completed my dissertation on “skateboarding: A vehicle for wellbeing development” the findings from this study, demonstrated that skateboarding can assist the development of physical, social and psychological wellbeing proving get on boards statements can be backed up by academic literature!
